11 Random Things

I was tagged by my friend Melissa to participate in this 11 Random Things post.  The first step is to share a picture of myself.  This is the part where I start desperately searching through the picture files on the computer and realizing how few pictures there are of me.  (Note to self: try to be in more pictures so people will know that I existed.)  Anyway, here is the best I could do right now.

Ok, moving along...next I am supposed to share 11 random things about myself.  So, here we go...
1.  I really like white daisies.  They remind me of my grandma, who I still miss tremendously.
2.  I enjoy doing needlepoint and cross stitch, even though it has been years since I have worked on any of that.  (Note to self- try to find time to get back to some of the projects that have been unfinished for longer than I can remember...)
3.  I am horrible at French knots, which also makes me miss my grandma.  She was amazing with French knots, and she taught me once.  But after going for too long without doing any, I lost it again. :(  (For those who don't know, French knots are used in needlepoint/embroidery.)
4.  Even though I do know how to knit and learned that first, I prefer crocheting.  At this point in my life, it just seems faster and easier, especially when you make mistakes (which happens more than I like to admit.)
5.  I enjoy playing the piano, but don't do that as often as I should.  (I am seeing a lot of things that I enjoy that I need to get back to doing, in all my spare time.)  :)
6.  I used to play the flute and piccolo in band.  I actually really hated practicing the piccolo because even though it was fun to play and it sounded good with the rest of the band, I didn't like the sound of it by itself.
7.  I always thought it would be cool to play the French horn.  I just think they are so cool looking and I like the sound.
8.  For as long as I can remember, the number one thing I have always wanted to be when I grew up was a mom. :)
9.  Even though I have always been shy in one-on-one/small group settings, I actually really enjoy public speaking.
10.  I really don't like coffee, even though it seems like it would come in handy after sleepless nights. :)
11.  I really love to read, and I also really enjoy writing.  :)

Wow, that took a lot longer than I thought!  Now I get to answer the 11 questions that Melissa posted.

1.  What is your favorite childhood memory?
~ That is a tough one...there are a lot of things that come to mind.  One of the first ones that popped into my head would be visiting my grandma and grandpa.  I remember staying over night there when I was really little, and sleeping with a stuffed Curious George.  I remember coloring a lot of pictures, and sitting on my grandpa's lap for a story.  I really miss them. :)

2.  What is your biggest fear?
~ Well, that would depend.  If we are talking about practical fears, I would say that I am afraid of wasps.  If we are talking about more intellectual fears, I would say the fear of not being good enough.

3.  When you first started driving, what kind of car did you have?
~ My first car was a Mercury Topaz.  It was really a pretty decent car until I hit a deer and totaled it.

4.  What moves you to tears?
~ Seeing people hurting and suffering.

5.  Why do you think babies spit up on you whenever you've just put on clean clothes?
~ I love this question! :)  I'm pretty sure it's to make sure that you always have laundry to do so you don't get bored. :)

6.  What was the hardest life-lesson you have had to learn?
~ Doing the right thing is usually the hard thing, and it is rarely the popular thing, but it is always worth doing!

7.  What is something you are good at?
~ I think I am pretty good at listening to people.

8.  Fast forward 30 years and then look back.  What is something going on in your life right now that you will probably miss in 30 years?
~ I REALLY love this question, and the answer is definitely snuggling with my kiddos!

9.  If you have children, what is something he/she/they have taught you?
~ They have taught me to treasure and live in the moment, not to take life too seriously, and most of all, the importance of buying washable markers! :)

10.  Name something on your "bucket list".
~ I would say publishing the childrens' book that I wrote when I was pregnant with Emma.

11.  When you are dead and gone, what do you hope people will remember about you?
~ I hope people will remember me as someone who loved and sought after the Lord.

Now it says that I am supposed to tag 5 people to respond and answer 11 questions of my choosing.  I think that will wait for another time, but please feel free to post a comment. :)
